Sweltering sunshine only served to fan the flames of passion at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, our favourite automotive garden party. Girardo & Co. contested the world-famous hill-climb with four exceptional cars, each with the kind of motorsport pedigree of which most could only dream…
By far the biggest celebration at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed was Formula 1’s 75th anniversary – one which was marked by what was perhaps the largest selection of Formula 1 cars every assembled in one place, from the very beginnings of the sport to the present day. Although it didn’t run up the hill, we were honoured to bring the Ferrari F1-87 in which Gerhard Berger won both the Japanese and Australian Grands Prix back in 1987. It’s a car we first presented in Paris at Rétromobile. And satisfyingly, Goodwood is not the last time you’ll see this spectacular scarlet Ferrari in public…
It's become something of a tradition for us to bring an evocative rally car from days gone by to Goodwood and 2025 was no exception. ‘R7 WRC’ is the Subaru Impreza WRC98 in which Colin McRae and Nicky Grist contested the Safari Rally in Kenya back in 1998. Despite showing pace that rivalled the sweltering African climate, an engine issue that plagued the entire Subaru team put paid to proceedings. ‘R7 WRC’ is a car we’ve had the pleasure of rehoming twice before, and one we’ll soon offer once again.
While Marcus Willis, Peter Macalpine and Davide de Giorgi all took turns to helm the Subaru up the hill, we had two very special guest drivers. On Saturday, we put Max McRae back in one of his uncle Colin’s two-door Imprezas for the first time since our epic ‘McRae vs. McRae’ film several years back (if you’ve got 10 minute spare, we’d thoroughly recommend watching it by clicking here). And on the final run of the weekend on Sunday evening, we realised the chief Bugatti and Rimac test-driver Miro Zrncevic’s lifelong dream of driving one of Colin McRae’s 555-liveried Subaru Imprezas. Slightly less power than the 2,000bhp electric Rimac he’d been driving all weekend. But something told us he had more fun in the old blue Scooby. We filmed Miro’s World Rally experience from start to finish – it’s a beautifully touching piece of film that we’ll be sharing with you soon.
Finally, as part of the launch of Pirelli’s fifth-generation P Zero tyre, we took part in a 10,000-horsepower parade on Thursday morning in a car with which we’re very familiar here at Girardo & Co.: the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale. This particular S4 distinguished itself further from its ultra-rare counterparts in that it’s finished in black rather than the usual red. Once again, this is a car we’ll be offering officially in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled.
