This weekend, we’ll be joining in the spectacle of nostalgia that is the Goodwood Revival and racing a Jaguar E-type in arguably the most beautiful race of the weekend: Saturday evening’s twilight Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy…

We’ve enjoyed some unforgettable moments at the Goodwood Revival in recent years. In 2021 Max was invited to race a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB Berlinetta ‘Interim’. One of only seven built, the ‘Interim’ was a brief but significant development stepping stone between the long-wheelbase ‘Tour de France’ and the hallowed 250 GT SWB Berlinetta. If you’ve got a spare five minutes you can read our comprehensive guide by clicking here.

That very ‘Interim’ subsequently starred as part of the phenomenal Ferrari triptych with which we teamed up with The Light Car Company to take to the Revival in 2022 to help celebrate the Prancing Horse’s 75th anniversary. The other two cars? Just a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO and the double Le Mans-winning Ferrari 275 P. You can discover more about each of these cars by clicking here. Suffice to say, it was a birthday party none of us is ever going to forget.

It's fair to say the pace was a touch more sedate for Team Girardo & Co.’s youngest recruit at last year’s Goodwood Revival. Our hot-shoe driver Gigi Girardo entered the most hotly-contested race of the weekend, The Settrington Cup, piloting a magnificent Austin J40 Roadster that her dad Max had spent weeks sourcing for the 10th-anniversary running of the ‘world’s cutest race’. Mercifully, Max wasn’t entirely relieved of driving duties that weekend. He had the honour of driving the 1964 Ferrari 250 LM we had recently sold, chassis number 5909, for parade laps at the head of the all-Ferrari Sussex Trophy race. Alongside two 250 GTOs. Casual.

Simply put, there is not a show on earth like the Goodwood Revival. The event transcends historic motorsport. In fact, the cars are just the start. It’s a kaleidoscopic cocktail of vintage style, drama, aviation and good old-fashioned fun. That is why we’re so excited to be playing a part in the world-class event this year, when Max contests the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy with the fabulous 1961 Jaguar E-type Series I 3.8 Roadster Flat Floor we’re currently offering for sale.

Among historic motorsport’s most successful pre-1963 E-types, chassis number 876176 is no stranger to the Goodwood Motor Circuit, having competed – and won! – in this very race at the Revival on several occasions before. A very early ‘Flat Floor’ example delivered new to the United States, this Jaguar was fastidiously restored by DK Engineering to ‘Project ZP’ specification. The brief? Built a competitive and versatile historic competition car that could contest – and win – on both the racetrack and on road rallies such as the Tour Auto.

The hour-long two-driver affair that is the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy is held specifically for pre-1963 closed-roof GT cars, with this year’s 30-strong grid comprising Ferrari 250 GT SWB/Cs, Jaguar E-types, Aston Martin DB4GTs and a handful of AC Cobras, among others.

Max is honoured to be sharing the E-type with none other than the Duke of Richmond’s son Charles March. They’ll be sharing the hallowed asphalt with everyone from seasoned historic motorsport veterans to Formula 1 legends, Le Mans winners, an Indy 500 winner, touring car champions and, amusingly, a number of other dealers!

With the single 30-minute qualifying session taking place at lunchtime on Friday and the hour-long race taking place at dusk on Saturday evening, it’s going to be a busy weekend. If you’re going to be at Goodwood, it would be a pleasure to catch up.
