When designers Wolfgang Egger and Daniele Gaglione were tasked by Alfa Romeo with envisaging a modern-day tribute to the marque’s most significant cars, they hardly had a bad back-catalogue from which to draw inspiration. The resulting 8C Competizione, shown first in concept form in 2003 and then in final production guise in 2007, was everything you could possibly want from a new Alfa Romeo. Namely eye-watering beauty, in this case inspired predominantly by the fabled TZ coupés of the 1960s.

There’s so much more to the 8C Competizione than its desperately pretty face, though. Here was a carbon-bodied sports-car-slash-Gran-Turismo crammed with state-of-the-art (Ferrari-derived) technology. The cherry on the cake? The frankly haunting eight-cylinder symphony that emanates from the car’s four exhaust tips. That Alfa Romeo was inundated with almost triple the number of orders than the number of cars it ultimately committed to build (just 500) says all you need to know about the 8C Competizione’s desirability. Desirability that, perhaps unsurprisingly, shows no sign of waning.

One of just 40 Alfa Romeo 8C Competiziones delivered new to the United Kingdom, chassis number 044567 boasts virtually every factory optional extra that was offered. Finished in the sumptuous ‘Multi-Layer Mica-Finished’ shade of ‘Rosso 8C’, the car has the stunning Schedoni Twisted Woven Leather upholstery (and matching luggage set). Other desirable boxes ticked on the order sheet included the premium Bose sound system, the painted ‘Quadrifoglio’ badges, the carbon-fibre steering wheel and the five-spoke racing alloy wheels.

This 8C Competizione remained in the UK for almost a decade, before it was sold to Europe in 2018. Diligently maintained by its handful of owners and showing just 6,267 kilometres on the odometer, this ultra-special limited-edition sports car remains in near-flawless factory-fresh condition. Satisfyingly, this 8C retains its original fitted luggage set, leather documents pouch, spare key and first-aid kit.
