Is it any wonder why the Porsche Carrera GT is the collector car world’s flavour of the month right now? Porsche’s first limited-production supercar since the Group B-bred 959, the Carrera GT harnessed the most state-of-the-art technology of the time yet retained its focus on mechanical purity and driver involvement.
So while the beautiful open-top Porsche boasts a carbon-fibre monocoque and subframe and carbon-ceramic brakes just like its period competitor the Ferrari Enzo, it’s fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox and little in the way of electronic driving aids.
Throw the sonorous 610HP 5.7-litre V10 engine into the mix and the result is one of all-time great analogue driving experiences. And in a world of unrelenting technological evolution that is increasingly sanitising driver engagement in the performance car sector, analogue is in demand.
“Throw the sonorous 610HP 5.7-litre V10 engine into the mix and the result is one of all-time great analogue driving experiences.”
Just 1,270 individually numbered Carrera GTs left Porsche’s Stuttgart factory between 2003 and 2007. Today, they are unsurprisingly among the most sought-after limited-production modern supercars for the current crop of next-generation collectors.
The Carrera GT we have recently had the pleasure of rehoming is serial number 1,136. It was delivered new to the first of its mere four private owners in June of 2009, four years after it was built and retained by Porsche at the factory in Stuttgart.
The car was one of only 94 Carrera GTs finished in GT Silver over Ascot Brown leather. Boxes ticked on the original order sheet included the Porsche Online Pro CD radio with BOSE sound system, air-conditioning, an uprated battery and the laminated wooden gear knob – a stylish ode to Porsche’s legendary prototype racers of the 1960s and 1970s.
This Carrera GT was acquired by its third and most recent owner in early 2012, joining a remarkable German collection of Porsches spanning the marque’s entire history.
In the years since, it has been enjoyed sporadically and diligently maintained – exclusively by the Porsche Centre Stuttgart, most recently in June of 2023. Retaining its factory luggage set and books including the stamped service record, this European-registered Carrera GT has changed hands just four times and shows just 15,000km on the odometer.
Finding a low-mileage, highly-original and blemish-free Porsche Carrera GT is no mean feat. This beautifully specified example filled those criteria.
