Maserati, the MC12 GT1 and domination
In 2004, Maserati returned to top level motorsport, entering the FIA GT Championship
with its MC12 GT1. The car was an immediate success, and in only its second
season, claimed the FIA GT Manufacturers’ Cup, scoring almost double the
championship points of the nearest competitor!
The MC12 GT1 race car was powered by a 6.0-litre, naturally aspirated V12
engine, which, due to regulations, was fitted with an air restrictor, resulting
in an impressive 580 bhp! Six FIA GT Teams’ Championships, two FIA GT
Constructors’ Championship, six Drivers’ Championships and no less than forty race
victories followed.
After this uncompromising performance, Maserati withdrew form the FIA GT
Championship, and has now returned since.
MC12 Versione Corsa
Having witnessed such domination, Maseratis favoured clients were offered
the opportunity to buy one of only twelve, MC12 Versione Corsas. This car is a
direct development of the MC12 GT1 and now void of restrictors, the
race-derived engine produced a staggering 755 bhp at 8,000 rpm – more than 110
bhp more than the MC12 stradale, and 150 bhp more than the MC12 GT1 race car!
This Maserati MC12 Versine Corsa
Offered here is the eighth of only twelve MC12 Versione Corsas built.
This car was assembled by Maserati in early 2007 and finished in Orange with a
black interior, just as it is presented today. With its dark grey wheels,
exposed carbon fibre rear wing and mounts and black Maserati sun strip, this
car has a purposeful appearance, ready to unleash its incredible 755 bhp on any
track.
This car was bought new by Michael Bareither of Germany, who was not only
a valued Maserati client, but also Ferrari having bought new a Ferrari FXX. Despite
clearly being a fan of track-focused cars, Bareither used the car very little.
With its current owner, this MC12 Versione Corsa had its engine removed
and rebuilt by ex-Maserati Corse mechanics in Modena with new gaskets
throughout, timing and a general service. More recently, the car also received
a major service by Officail Ferrari Dealer, Formula Automobile with works
including an engine service, new gearbox oil, brake fluid and a new clutch.
This is the ultimate expression, built without restrictions or
regulations, of what a track-focussed Maserati should be. A 6.0-litre,
naturally aspirated V12 producing 755 bhp with a six-speed sequential
semi-automatic Cambiocorsa gearbox and carbon-ceramic brakes ensure that each
fortunate owner experiences truly exhilarating performance. The carbon-fibre
and Nomex honeycomb sandwich monocoque is stress-bearing, with front and rear
aluminium subframes and an integral role cage, weighing in at an impressively
light 1,150 kg.
Maserati produced only 12 of these ultimate track weapons, compared to
rival Ferrari’s 30 FXXs. Those 12 clients were offered the car by invitation,
at a cost of €1,000,000. For your money, this MC12 Corsa could propel itself
from 0 to 200 km/h (0–124 mph) in a mere 6.4 seconds and continue on to a top
speed of 326 km/h (202 mph)!
Never has there been a more powerful Maserati, and with this example finished in a unique colour combination, surely you want to experience the exhilaration that this car can offer?
