The Jaguar XJ220

Unveiled at the Birmingham Motor Show in 1988, the XJ220 was built to celebrate Jaguars motorsport success throughout the 1980’s, being designed and manufactured in conjunction with Tom Walkinshaw Racing.

The 3,498 cc, twin-turbocharged V-6 engine produced a colossal 542 bhp, sending drive to the road through a five-speed manual gearbox, and two of the largest rear tyres ever seen, 345/35ZR18! The XJ220 was also one of the first production road cars to utilise flat floors and the venturi effect to generate underbody downforce, with the cars slippery design resulting in a drag coefficient of only 0.36, and downforce of 1,400kg (3,000 lb) at 200 mph (320 km/h)!

During testing, the XJ220 recorded a top speed of 217.1 mph (349.4 km/h) at the Italian test track, Nardo. This made it the fastest production car of its day, with Jaguar also claiming the car to have set a new production car lap-record at the famed Nurburgring in Germany, setting a time of 7:46.36 in 1991.

This Jaguar XJ220

This Jaguar XJ220 was finished new in Spa Silver with a Smoke Grey interior, the same specification as it is presented today. Jaguar Cars Ltd delivered this LHD XJ220 new to Mr Corrado Morelli, owner of Sports Land Amusements in Northern Ireland on 5th July 1995. As a left-hand drive car, it was fitted with a speedometer displaying km’s. One year later, in September 1996, this XJ220 returned to the Jaguar Cars Service Department on Browns Lane, Coventry, for a service with the mileage noted as 684 km.

Impressively, this XJ220 retains many of its original MOT certificates in the history file, confirming the slowly increasing mileage to just over 14,000 km today. The first MOT was on 1st September 1998, with the car displaying 1,461 km. In 2003, this XJ220 was serviced by Tim Samways Sporting & Historic Car Engineers, with a copy of the invoice totalling £11,500 included in the car’s history file.

Later, in 2012, the car received an ‘engine-out’ service by Don Law XJ220, again copies of the invoices are included in the car’s history file, whilst also receiving a new fuel cell. A year later, the car also received Don Law’s useful trunk upgrade, allowing the vehicle to be used for touring as it is now possible to carry luggage. Also in 2013, Don Law removed the dampers and rebuilt them, also carrying out a full geometry set up.

Today, still displaying a mere 14,000 km, this XJ220 is presented in stunning condition, having been fully detailed and will be serviced by Jaguar Heritage prior to delivery to its new owner. A low-mileage example of one of the world’s most stunning supercars, how could one resist?
