The Lamborghini Jarama 400 GT
The Lamborghini Jarama debuted in 1971, borrowing design ques from the Espada, whilst being shorter and wider than the Islero it replaced. It was again designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, featuring competition-themed NACA ducts in the bonnet and half-hidden headlights to create a smooth, ‘sleepy-looking’ front end. The interior was typical Italian 2+2 of the period, with leather seating, a wood steering wheel, and a large console. Rear-seat passengers ride in deep, contoured buckets with the console continuing through to the back of the car.
The 3.9 litre, 60-degree, V12 engine which powered the Jarama was largely carried over from the Islero S with a few tweaks to improve reliability and performance, rating it at 350 bhp. The gearbox was a five-speed manual with a top speed in the region of 160 mph.
This Jarama 400GT
The Jarama 400GT offered here, chassis 10106 was completed at the Lamborghini factory on 11th March 1971, and 2 weeks later delivered to the Lugano Lamborghini dealer, ‘Gentleman Car Lugano’. The car was immediately sold to Mr. Carlo Bernardoni, a local resident in Lugano who registered the car in Switzerland on license ‘TI 7015’. The car has then been emissions tested regularly in Switzerland throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s before we bought the car in 2017. The car has since been registered in the UK with EU taxes being paid, and still displays less than 15,000 KMs.
