The
beautiful, Pininfarina-designed, Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ presented here was
completed at the Maranello factory on 22nd July 1970 and finished in
Celeste Metallizzato with a Pelle Rosso Scuro interior, the came configuration
as it is retains today. This car was delivered new to Franco-Britannic Autos SA
in Paris later the same month, before being sold to its first owner, Dr Emile
Bouton on 22nd October 1970. Bouton was a Radiologist in Paris and
registered this Daytona on Parisian license ‘4647 WT 75’.
In 1973 Dr
Bouton retired and moved to Strasbourg, where he re-registered this Daytona on
license ‘7673 QX 67’. Within the cars history file are copies of the early
French registration documentation, along with images of Mrs Jeanne Bouton sat
in this Daytona.
In 1976,
this car was bought by Mr Pascal Boyer, having passed through one other
short-term owner. Mr Boyer was a resident in Montchauvet and registered the car
with French license ‘3223 CX 94’. Less than a year later he sent the car to
Paul Mercier, Official Ferrari Concessionaire for engine and service works with
the invoice, a copy of which is in the cars history file, noting the car to
have already covered 57,187 kms, clearly a car that was being driven and
enjoyed by its owners. A year later and Mr Boyer relocated to Yvelines where he
changed the registration to be’8448 LM 78’, and again sent this Daytona for
service works at Paul Mercier, with the mileage now noted as 68,088 kms.
The
ownership changes of this car are well documented within the comprehensive
history file accompanying it, and after passing through several further French
owners, this car was purchased by the renowned Dutch collector, Edgar
Schermerhorn in 1996 and added to his ‘ISC Collection’. This car was registered
on Dutch license plate ‘DM-21-44’ and shown by Schermerhorn at the Ferrari Club
meeting at Zeist in December 1999.
In April
2009, this 365 GTB/4 was awarded its Ferrari ‘Red-Book’ Classiche
Certification, confirming it to be a ‘matching-numbers’ example. Then a month
later the car was sold to Mr Horacio Lopez at the RM Auctions Ferrari auction
in Maranello, shortly after being UK registered on license ‘EPV 84H’. In Lopz’s
ownership the car returned to Italy where the engine, suspension, brakes and
transmission were all overhauled by Autofficina Omega and repainted by
Carrozzeria Sport Cars Modena.
We have
driven many Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona’s and genuinely believe this to be one of
the most powerful and strongest road specification engines we have ever had the
pleasure of experiencing. The works carried out in Italy are documented with
invoices and images within the cars history file.
The car
passed through Max’s hands once more at RM Auctions London auction in September
2012 where it was sold to its current owner, joining a well-established European
collection. The cars of this collection are maintained by an on-site dedicated
mechanic who oversees all aspects of the maintenance. Prior to offering this
car we have sent the car to Ferrari specialist, Bob Houghton, for a full
service.
A Ferrari
365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ is a great car, it marked a change in Ferrari’s appearance
and is certainly regarded as one of the best grand tourers to leave the Maranello
factory gates. This Ferrari Classiche Certified example is presented in
stunning condition, and when paired to this freshly-serviced, spectacularly
powerful engine, offers the next owner a fabulously grand touring experience.
