The Lamborghini Espada
Lamborghini’s
3.9 litre, V12 powered, four-seat, Espada was designed by Marcello Gandini at
Bertone, going into production in 1968. Its long bonnet, sleek lines and
comfortable interior made it an ideal grand touring candidate, often seen
cruising the autostradas in Italy and Europe throughout the late 1960’s and
1970’s.
The name
‘Espada’ comes from the Spanish language, where it means ‘sword’, and used by
Lamborghini in reference to the sword that the Torero uses to kill the bull in
Corrida, Spanish bull fighting.
The car we
are offering here was sold new through Official Lamborghini concessionaire, Garage
Foitek, in Zürich. It completed build in June
1969 finished in white with a black interior and first registered on 7th
July 1969 in Switzerland. This is a Series 1 Espada, being fitted with the more
desirable early dashboard with futuristic instrument binnacle surrounds.
More
recently, the car was serviced at Lamborghini St.Gallen, Switzerland, in June
2016. At this time the car was noted as displaying 84,426 kilometres. The
service included engine, gearbox and differential oil changes, front and rear
brake calliper rebuilds along with the carburettors being stripped and
thoroughly cleaned. The petrol tank was also replaced and the spark plugs
replaced, ensuring the car is presented in mechanically sound condition.
The Series
1 Espada offered here is a very original example, presented with its original
engine and having freshly been service by official Lamborghini dealers in
Switzerland, a great opportunity to acquire an Espada to be driven and enjoyed.
