Chassis no. 12623

This Ferrari 365 GT 2+2, chassis 12623, was delivered on the 4th July 1969 through W.H.Lowe Pty Ltd in Melbourne, Australia to Dr Downey. The car remained in Australia right up until 2014 when it was brought to the UK. Being an Australian delivered car, this is one of only roughly 70 right hand drive cars built. The car was originally finished in Avorio The Tetrarch (Ivory), with a Pelle Beige (VM 3218) interior.

By 1981 the car was owned by John Swinfield, before passing to Dick Granger in 1986. In 1988 ownership had transferred to Mr Ian Buddery who was president of the Ferrari Owners Club of New South Wales, Australia. From 1988 until March 1991 Mr Buddery personally restored the car at a cost of A$120,000. The large history file contains many parts invoices from this restoration. Mr Buddery also changed the colour of the car from Rosso red to metallic black, which he notes as being a factory option colour, and a beautiful beige interior to complement the exterior perfectly. It is worth noting that Mr Buddery was also a competent and hugely knowledgeable engineer who was focussed on historic racing, maintaining an ex-Michael Andretti Lola-Cosworth Indy Car from his garage. At this time the 365 GT 2+2 was registered on Australian license ‘ENZ 027’.

In 1991, Buddery consigned chassis 12623 to Christies for auction. He noted the car as being “100% Body, mechanical, trim, suspension, electrical, running gear, chrome, wheels, restoration completed March 1991’ and set a reserve of A$150,000. The car was sold to Mr Peter Ireland before passing to another Sydney based owner, Mr Tony File. In 2006 the car spent a short period under the ownership of Mr William Koppe before passing to Mr Michael Martin who changed the registration to ‘281 25H’.
The car next passed to the well-known Sydney-based Jaguar restoration specialist Mr Ian Cummins who registered the car on license ‘SI 6593’. Sadly, due to deteriorating health, Mr Cummins sold the car to Dutton Garage before it passed to Mr Michael Bucher of Barnstaple in the United Kingdom. In December 2014 Mr Bucher imported the car to the UK and registered it on license ‘TUX 125H’.

Since arrival in the United Kingdom Mr Bucher has had the car inspected and serviced by GTO Engineering in March 2015. Later in 2015 the car also received a new set of tyres before being Classiche Certified. Most recently, in February 2016 Mr Bucher had the car serviced, MOT’d and detailed, this time at Maranello Egham.

Chassis 12623 was awarded its Ferrari ‘Red Book’ Classiche Certification on 11th November 2015. The certification confirms the car to retain its original chassis, engine, gearbox, differential and body.
