The Ferrari 275 GTS

The incredibly elegant and sophisticated Ferrari 275 GTS by Pininfarina was launched at the 1964 Paris Salon, alongside the 275 GTB. This was the first Ferrari Spider for nearly two years, after the 250 GT California ceased production in early 1963.

Similar in layout to the GTB, the GTS was significantly different in style, thanks to Carrozzeria Pininfarina styled and built body. Only 200 of these bodies were delivered to the Ferrari factory, fully trimmed by Pininfarina in Turin. Unlike the GTB, the GTS was supplied with Borrani wire wheels throughout its production.

The engine fitted to the 275 GTS was the same mighty 3,286 cc, Type 213, V12 as fitted to the 275 GTB, and mated to the reliable and delightful five-speed manual transaxle, ensuring great weight distribution and balance.

Today, the 275 GTS is considered one of the prettiest Ferraris produced, and thanks to its incredibly short production with only 200 examples built, it is widely accepted as a must-have in any significant Ferrari collection.

This Concours-quality Ferrari 275 GTS

The achingly beautiful Ferrari 175 GTS offered here, chassis 08313 completed production at Ferraris fabled Maranello factory in early 1966, before being delivered to Official Ferrari Dealer, M.G.Crepaldi, in Milan, Italy. The car was originally finished in Rosso Cina with a Pelle Beige interior

The first owner, Mr Hartmann was a resident in Dusseldorf, close to German dealer, Auto Becker, and bought the car in March 1966. Three years later the car passed to another German owner in Munich. Having been registered in Germany and assigned the registration ‘M-TS 151’, this 275 GTS was serviced by the Ferrari factory’s Assistenza Clienti in Modena, Italy. At this time, the mileage was noted as 29,189 kilometres, clearly this GTS was being enjoyed on the open road.

In the 1970s, this Ferrari made the journey across the pond to the United States of America before being advertised for sale by Mr Holz in the Los Angeles Times on 21^st August 1977. In 1983, this 275 GTS was sold to well-known Golden State enthusiast Bob Mow, in whose ownership it remained for about 25 years. Throughout this ownership, the prized Ferrari was carefully and correctly stored, remaining almost unused for nearly 25 years!

Having passed through a Californian dealer, this car was the recipient of an incredible concours-quality restoration in 2008. Renowned Ferrari and concours specialists, Brian Hoyst of Perfect Reflections, and Patrick Ottis ensured this was restoration like no other. The car was finished in Nero with Nero hood, Rosso seats. The large wood-rimmed steering wheel gives the driver a fantastic feel, to match the menacingly sporty colour combination.

In January 2015, our very own Max Girardo sold the car at auction. As a result of its incredible condition and presentation, this car sold for $2,365,000, a record for the 275 GTS. The current owner has continued to appreciate this Ferrari’s exceptional condition, and in late 2015, this 275 GTS was inspected by Ferrari Classiche, and awarded its Ferrari Classiche Certification binder on 19^th January 2016. This ‘red book’ confirms this 275 retains its original Ferrari chassis, engine, gearbox, differential and body, a fully matching numbers Ferrari!

As one would expect of a restoration from these two well-respected restoration specialists, every detail has been examined and perfected. A point fully proven when this car participated in Ferrari’s 70^th Anniversary Concours d’Elegance, held on the hallowed tarmac of Ferrari's private test track, Fiorano. Thanks to this incredible restoration, this car won the 275 Class at the most fiercely competitive Concours d’Elegance!

Today, this Ferrari 275 GTS is offered in exceptional condition, having once again been carefully stored since its victory at the Ferrari Concours d’Elegance. Still presented in concours condition, this Ferrari 275 GTS is ready for either the open road, or the Concours field. Whichever route you choose, this Ferrari is more than capable.
